Postdoctoral positions in neuroimaging and circuit physiology - [ Postdoc ]

Added on: 23/11/2018 - Expires on 15/01/2019

The Functional Neuroimaging Research Line ( ), at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Rovereto, Italy, is seeking postdoctoral researchers interested in studying the neural basis of connectivity disruption in brain disorders.

The candidate will work within the framework of the ERC project ‘Neural drivers of functional disconnectivity in brain disorders’ (DisConn, #802271).

Our research is aimed at identifying the general neural and cellular principles governing the assembly of brain connectivity  and its breakdown in developmental disorders (e.g. autism, schizophrenia). We address these questions at the level of identified cell types by combining neural manipulations (optogenetics, chemogenetics, viral tracing, Giorgi et al., Cell Reports, 2017)) with cutting-edge neuroimaging methods (Bertero et al., Brain 2018) and electrophysiological recordings. The successful candidates will have a PhD in neuroscience, biotechnology, physics, or equivalent. Training in experimental neuroscience is desirable. We value candidates that are proactive, highly-motivated, and who are willing to interact with both experimental and computational neuroscientists.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The IIT center in Rovereto ( is actively expanding its infrastructure for systems level neuroscience research, and is inserted both in the vibrant community of the IIT ( and that of CIMeC ( within the University of Trento, which specializes in cognitive neuroscience.

Please send your application (full CV, with a brief description of your current research and names and contacts of 2 referees) by email to, quoting “Postdoctoral position in neuroscience, CB 75813 – 75814” in the email subject. The deadline for applications is January  15th, 2019. Applications will be examined until the positions are filled.

Please note that these positions are contingent on the signature of the relevant Grant agreement.

IIT was established in 2003 and successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide with an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nano-biotechnologies.
